Day: 884 Shirt: Monsula - Nickel EP Color: white Brand: Fruit Of The Loom 3 Pack Source: I would venture to guess most of you don’t know who Monsula is unless you were form Northern California. they were a big favorite of mine before they broke up after one record. lots of energy, great songs. and punk.
when i look at this shirt it reminds me a lot of who i am or rather what i have become to be. this shirt is so DIY it is ridiculous. printed on those 3 pack of white shirts you got from K-Mart and the most slam bam print jobs ever. why? cause they usually did it all themselves. we needs shirts: learn to make them..Start a band, learn how to play music. You want something done do it yourself. to me that is what being a Punk Kid was all about. You didn’t wait for someone else to come around and do it for you, you just sacked up and did it your self.
This Park above called Burnside in Portland was started with one dude pouring concrete in an area that wasn’t being used in a town that desperately needed a skatepark.
People ask me all the time why do i make shirts, the reproductions they are referring to. I tell them cause no one else will. someone has to. I wanted one, thus there was a demand of at least one. are they valuable? probably not to anyone else but the person who saw it and had to have one too.
I don’t know what i am trying to say here or if i am at all. I just look at this fucked up crooked poly made shirt and i can’t help but smile and feel good inside knowing that it wasn’t some company paid to make it, it was done purely out of passion and love for either the band or the art of making shirts. someone 20 years ago felt like this shirt needed to be made and took charge and did it. it wasn’t gunna make itself right?
